Star Ocean The Second Story R boxart

Star Ocean The Second Story R Review

Star Ocean: The Second Story R has brought a cult classic into a new era. It’s been thoughtfully retooled, but it’s still packed with all the heart and soul of the original. Graphically, it’s gorgeous, and the new quests and features range from fair to fabulous. It’s one of my favorite video games in even finer form.

Front Mission 2: Remake boxart

Front Mission 2: Remake Review

A rough localization and some familiarly frustrating RNG-related issues bog it down, but Front Mission 2: Remake is probably worth the headaches overall.

Crymachina boxart

Crymachina Review

Despite the narrative not fully coming together in the end, as well as some repetitive gameplay structure, Crymachina manages to be a compelling RPG. Regardless of its uneven nature and short duration, I think it may leave a lasting impression on me - at least a little bit.

World of Horror boxart

World of Horror Review

This turn-based horror RPG took its sweet time to full release, but it was well worth it with an addictive gameplay loop, a compelling battle system, and a stunningly beautiful visual aesthetic.

Detective Pikachu Returns boxart

Detective Pikachu Returns Review

The case of Detective Pikachu has never been fully closed, but now Detective Pikachu Returns, this time to the Nintendo Switch. I enjoyed my time with Detective Pikachu Returns, nonetheless, Detective Pikachu Returns just isn’t a very good game.

Long Gone Days boxart

Long Gone Days Review

Long Gone Days is a project that’s been in the works for many years. With grating hand holding, but a decent story and grounded characters, Long Gone Days is a good choice for those interested in a narrative-focused RPG.

Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster Review

While this remaster might not be to the quality that the Baten Kaitos series deserves, it still is a lovely way to play and revisit these classics after so long.

Fate/Samurai Remnant Review

Fate/Samurai Remnant takes advantage of a new, grounded setting, a fresh cast of characters, and a gripping narrative to serve as both an approachable gateway to Fate for newbies and a potent fan service vehicle for veterans.

Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest - The Adventure of Dai boxart

Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai Review

A disappointing game adaptation for one of the best Dragon Quest spin-off series that possesses major structural and gameplay shortcomings.

Everhood boxart

Everhood Eternity Edition Review

Everhood just wasn’t as thought-provoking as the subtitle “An Ineffable Tale of the Inexpressible Divine Moments of Truth” might suggest. While I found some enjoyment in the later part of the game, it didn’t hit all the right notes for me.

Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless boxart

Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless Review

If you liked previous Disgaea games — grinding your levels up to max, performing increasingly higher damaging attacks, and seeing a mass of numbers fill your screen — Disgaea 7 continues that trend and amplifies it further.

The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails Review

The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails invokes a feeling of an earlier era of Falcom in some of the best ways. With a charming presentation and commendable gameplay, this is a satisfying game and an easy recommendation to anyone looking for a light-hearted action RPG romp.

Virgo Vs The Zodiac boxart

Virgo Vs The Zodiac Review

Virgo Vs The Zodiac is quite unique, and for the most part is better for it. Personally, I don’t see how a game that lets you ride an alpaca and purge heretics could’ve gone wrong. But the combat and systems don't shake up much over time.

Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical boxart

Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical Review

While Stray Gods is subtitled The “Roleplaying” Musical, it plays much more akin to a visual novel or adventure game than what one might call an RPG, though the musical part still applies. The music is especially fun and some tracks definitely would have a place in theatre.

Atelier Marie Remake: The Alchemist of Salburg boxart

Atelier Marie Remake: The Alchemist of Salburg Review

This remake of the very first game, now titled Atelier Marie Remake: The Alchemist of Salburg, is both an opportunity for new fans and old to see where it all began. Like the original, it has a pretty small scope, however, it is a mostly relaxing experience.

Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection Review

Etrian Odyssey is a great dungeon RPG series, and its transition to PC & Switch is an admirable one, but some interface oddities and a hefty pricepoint raise eyebrows.
